brazil

Pastor Roger recently shared a description of several aspects of his ministry in Brazil. We’ve already highlighted some of the topics he’s mentioned, but it’s good to hear his perspective and learn about new aspects of what God is doing:

Praise God for His faithfulness toward the churches in Brazil! The church in Aracaju is continuing to grow and learning how to make disciples of Christ. This involves trusting Christ, obeying Christ, and teaching others how to be like Christ. Praise the Lord that disciples are being made at the new church in Gloria! The men of Aracaju are also being challenged to think of where there may be any needs for future church plants.

The youth have also been a big part of this disciple making process. They continue to help with the kids ministries in Gloria every month. Earlier this year they also went on a missions trip to a small church in Rio Grande do Sul (a state in southern Brazil). The youth had great attitudes and served by passing out tracts and leading church services. This was a huge encouragement to the youth and to the local church in southern Brazil. The benefit for those who go on missions trips is that it can grow your faith, expand your vision, and be a blessing to the people you are visiting, as well as the church back home that you report to. This was also true of the Countryside youth trip that recently visited the church in Aracaju. The team participated in street evangelism, meeting in people’s homes, special youth meetings, kids programs, special testimonies, singing songs, preaching, and fellowship. It was a very fun and edifying time for believers from the USA and from Brazil.

I am also a part of the BGFM mission board. This means that I am attending meetings and helping missionaries from Brazil to reach other places beyond Aracaju and Gloria. We recently had a single missionary lady and a missionary couple be sent out as missionaries to Portugal. We also got the chance to visit Tiago in southern Brazil. He is reaching out to a growing Muslim population that is in Brazil (there are about 30,000 Muslims in his town). Pray that the churches in Brazil continue to make disciples that will go into all the world and preach the Gospel!

Pastor Roger shared a separate prayer request about construction on his home and on the church building, specifically that he and the church would wisely use the materials God has given them.

How to pray

  • Pray for fruit from the recent missions trips, both in the lives of those on the trips and those who heard the gospel as a result of their ministry.

  • Pray that God would bless the efforts of the newly commissioned missionaries in Portugal and of Tiago as he ministers to Muslims in Brazil.

  • Pray for Roger and the church to use the materials God has given them wisely.

  • Pray that God would allow Crystal to have an effective ministry with the kids and women in the church.

  • Pray that God would save Erasmo.

  • Pray that Pastor Roger would have strength and patience to continue enduring his Parkinson’s symptoms.

  • Pray for the leadership in Aracaju and Gloria:

    • Pastor Roger Johansen.

    • Pastor Eriomar Maia.

    • Pastor Marcos.

FIJI

Dr. Narayan praises God for several aspects of recent ministry. Nadi Bible Church held their first service recently in a building near the international airport in Fiji. Fiji Bible College recently held an overnight camp for children who trusted Christ during a recent summer camp. And an optical team of believers from Australia came to provide care for over 1,000 people, providing medical help and sharing the gospel. Pray that God would provide fruit from these ministries, and that God would continue to grow his church, establishing the new church plant in the truth.

Mexico

Countryside Church, the Warne’s sending church, recently sent out an update on God’s work in Pastor Brian’s ministry in Mexico:

The Lord is continuing to bless Countryside’s ministries through Pastor Brian and Danyel in México and Perú. While preaching and shepherding in the churches in Mochicahui and Los Mochis, Pastor Brian also continues to enjoy many opportunities to train pastors and future leaders both locally and throughout Latin America. In June, he taught Pastoral Ministries for two weeks at a seminary in Sonora, México. In September, he will resume teaching Advanced Biblical Counseling online classes for the Seminary for Expository Preaching from Honduras to reach men throughout Central and South America. Pastor Brian was also recently confirmed as a Teaching Fellow with the Association of Certified Biblical Counselors (ACBC).

This past month Pastoral Resident Cesar Villalba was ordained to pastoral ministry and he and his family were sent to Culiacán, Sinaloa to join their church planting team alongside Pastor Juan and Héctor.

Pastor Brian and Danyel were also recently in Peru. Pastor Brian preached in the five church plants. Danyel taught a group of women whose husbands are currently pastoring or are in training through their church in Miraflores. That church recently moved into a rented facility after meeting for some time in a hotel conference room. This past Saturday, 70 people attended their prospective new members class. It was a joy for them to spend time counseling and encouraging each pastoral family (especially former pastoral residents from Honduras, Robers and Boris, who are now church planting in Perú).

In July, Pastoral Resident César moved to Sinaloa to join in the Culiacán church planting team. Pastor Brian praises God for César’s ordination as a pastor on July 13 and looks forward to how God will use Pastor César in the ministry in Culiacán. Pastor Brian and Danyel are currently in Peru until the end of the month, ministering to six church planting pastoral families in five different churches. Pray for God to give both of them strength and endurance during this trip, and also that God would bless their time and use it to produce fruit in the church in Peru. Pastor Brian continues to have pastoral discipleship training meetings online twice each week. He meets with Mexican, Honduran, and Peruvian church planting pastors and pastoral residents. He will also be traveling to Chihuahua, México soon to spend a few days with the family of Estaban. Estaban is currently under consideration to be accepted into their local pastoral residency program in Sinaloa as they build a church planting team of the city for Mazatlán. Pastor Brian and Daniel, along with Bill and Teri Bucher, are also getting ready for an upcoming trip to accompany Pastor Joshua and Emma on an exploratory trip to Mozambique, Africa. While there, they will be teaching Pastoral Ministries at a local seminary. They will also be researching and meeting with people as Pastor Joshua considers future church planting in Mozambique.

How to pray

  • Pray for Pastor César’s ministry in Culiacán and that God would use the new church plant there to spread the gospel and draw people to salvation.

  • Pray that God would bless Pastor Brian and Danyel during their trip to Peru.

    • Pastoral Resident Tony de la Cruz, wife Avi, and family

    • Pastoral Resident Yosimar Moya, wife Paula, and family

    • Deacon Seth, wife Mavy, and family

    • Deacon Will, wife Jasmin, and family
